OOTW: My Little Vacation

I recently took a little trip up to Seattle to look at some colleges and let me tell you, it was freezing! I've been there before, but only in the summertime and even though it's only September, it was pretty cold! I had a great time and the shopping was awesome! (I'll do a haul post later). There was a storm and the weatherman said it was the worst one since last year, lucky me. But on the bright side, I got to dress all nice and cozy :)

Splurge or Steal? Beauty Edition

Now, we all see people raving about those top of the line products, but are they really worth it? If you don't want to invest in something you're not too sure about, I can help you find some similar products for a fraction of the price!

Splurge: Naked 2 Palette
Very nice neutral colors, $50 at Sephora

Steal: Revlon ColorStay 16 Hour Eyeshadow
My go-to palette, $6 from CVS

vs.

Splurge: Guerlain Rouge G De Guerlain Lipstick
I've read amazing reviews about this lipstick. I've never actually tried it and probably won't, seeing as it's $49.50 at Sephora
Steal: Maybelline Color Sensational Lipstick
The color payoff is phenomenal with this lipstick, and at $7.50 from Walmart, how can you go wrong?

vs.

Splurge: MAC ProLongwear Foundation
I don't know about you, but to me, $31 is a lot to spend on foundation.
Steal: Rimmel London Wake Me Up Foundation
Good coverage and light texture, all for $12 at Walmart

DIY: Salvage Old Lip Gloss

You know that lip gloss that's just sitting in your makeup box that you love but don't use? Or maybe you've used all you can, but what the brush can't reach on the sides. Well it's probably all dried up, and you're going to want to revive it. And you can! With this simple process.

1. Gather up all the glosses you want to revive.
(with this process you can do more than one at a time)

2. Get a cup of warmish hot water, not boiling though, just warm enough to melt the product.

3. Place the glosses into the cup and wait for about 20 mins.

Take them out and you should have regular looking lipglosses again!

Falling for Fall Fashion

With the reveal of fall fashion trends at NY Fashion Week recently, I thought it would be fun to try out some new trends. Some of these have been around for a while, but are making a definite comeback.

Leather will keep you warm and looking fierce this season.

Burgundy/Wine colored pieces provide you with a rich and earthy color palette.

Another great fall color is army/olive green. I have a pair of jeans this color, so maybe I'll do a styling post :)

The weather's getting colder so it's time for the sweaters to start making appearances.

Last, and my favorite by far...high heeled ankle booties! You may already know that these Jeffrey Campbell Taupe Litas are my dream shoes.

My Fall Shoe Must Haves

It's time to trade in those flip flops for boots and bikinis for scarves, because fall is here! One of my favorite parts about fall is finally getting to wear my boots again without feeling like my feet are melting. These shoes are going to be some of what I have in my closet, and some that are on my wish list.

2. Gray Studded Ankle Booties, Material Girl

3. Black Leather Riding Boots

4. Taupe Suede Litas, Jeffrey Campbell (wish list)
Again with the Litas, I know. I just can't get enough of these!
These are either going to be a hit or miss for you guys, but I absolutely adore them.

DIY Lip Scub

Fall is here and winter is just around the corner and that means cozy clothes, new makeup collections, and yes, chapped lips. The cold and brutal winds just love drying out our lips and we will not stand for it! We must fight back and exfoliate and moisturize! This DIY lip scrub is super easy to make and it also tastes amazing!

What you'll need:
2 tsp. Sugar (white or brown)
1/2 tsp. Honey
1 tsp. Olive Oil
1/4 tsp. Vanilla
A Small Mixing Bowl
A Spoon for Mixing
A Small Container
Step 1: Mix together the honey and oil in the bowl
Step 2: Add the sugar
Step 3: Mix in the Vanilla
Step 4: Spoon the scrub into the container
And done! This lip scrub is perfect for the fall and winter time! Just apply a little on your lips, and gently scrub for about 15-20 seconds. Rinse it off and apply a lip balm. Whenever I make this, I always make about 5 times the recipe and give some to my friends as presents!

Thanks for reading and I hope you take of your lips this fall and winter!

A Sad Story

After 4 faithful years of service, my CHI straightener has retired...or should I say, it broke. My foot caught the wire and it went crashing to the ceramic floor :(
But, instead of crying over it, I took it as the opportunity to seek out some new products! I stumbled across some really good ones on Amazon and picked one out, but I couldn't go for much longer without my straightener, so I went to my local CVS to look for a temporary replacement (I like to straighten my hair every day) and found the Remington Wet 2 Straight Ceramic Flat Iron. I actually saw the same one on Amazon, but now I had it right in front of me with no shipping fees! Yay!
I just bought it today and haven't even opened it yet, but you should stay tuned for a review, maybe in a month or so.

Thanks for reading, and if you have any styling products to recommend, please comment!

Korean Fashion

Let me just start by saying that I think Korean women have THE best style. It can be so cute and girly, but at the same time cool and chic. They can pretty much pull of any kind of look, be it leather, lace, or loafers.

Lots of designers put on quite a show at New York Fashion Week 2013, and without further ado, here's some of my favorite collections and pieces:

Micheal Kors

Marchesa

Zac Posen

Tory Burch

Of course I wish I could've been there in person, I mean come on! These clothes are stunning! Every model looked fierce and fresh. It was an amazing transition into fall 2013.

My Top 5 Mascaras

Lately, I've been all about the lashes! I hardly ever wear falsies because they just take too long to put on, but I'll bear through it if I'm going to a special event.
But anyways, I just can't get enough of mascara lately! I usually apply 3-4 coats, depending on the mascara and how I'm feeling that day. If you're a mascara junkie like me, then you know how hard it is to walk out of a makeup store without buying any!
So let the countdown to my favorite mascaras begin!
I use this either when I'm in a rush to get out of the house, or when I just want more natural looking lashes.
For this one, I use about 4 coats on my top lashes and 1 on the bottom
#3: Tokidoki's Punk Lash Mascara
This one is really fun because it's blue! It's a really nice alternative to black mascara, and hardly anyone else wears it so you'll be sure to start a trend. I don't think you can buy this anywhere :(
This is probably the best waterproof mascara I've ever used. I wear this through 8 hours of school then 2 hours of swim practice and it never flakes or smudges!
This mascara is CRAZY! It gets every single one of my lashes looking long and full of volume! The wand is really fat and even has bristles at the top so you can get that falsies look.

Fashion Friday: Frames for Everyone!

Since I'm getting glasses in a couple of weeks, I thought it would be nice to do a post on glasses. They say that specific face shapes have particular glasses frame shapes that compliment it. Although this is true, it shouldn't stop you from wearing frames that you love!

Round:

With this face shape, wear more angular frames, but try to avoid them being too big, you don't want to drown in your glasses.

Square:

Since this shape is so angular, try wearing a frame with heavy upper rims. This will draw attention away from the jawline and give the optical illusion of a longer face. Or try a rounder shape to add some curves to your face.

Heart/Inverted Triangle:

Go for rimless glasses. Try to avoid rectangular frames because these will accentuate your forehead and cheekbones.

Oval:

Avoid frames that are as long as they are wide and go for longer, rectangular frames. This will create a more balanced look and it will also accentuate your cheekbones.

Remember: don't be afraid to try out new looks, glasses can really pull a look together. You can be studious with a rectangular pair, or hipster with big square frames without any lenses.

I Fell in Love!

I've fallen completely, head-over-heels, in love...with a pair of wedges! You thought I meant with a guy? Oh please, I'm too busy blogging for that to actually happen ;)
It was love at first sight. I walked into Payless and saw these babies in their little box positioned right in my line of sight.
I'm talking about the Brash Lunar Platform Wedges in Black.
With a 5 inch heel and a 1 inch platform, these wedges seem very comfy because you're actually only walking on 4 inches of heel. I had them on for only about 10 mins in the store but from what I experienced, they are veeerryyy comfy. AND they're only $20! I'm definitely buying these in the near future.
I go to a lot of special events and participate in performances so these shoes will definitely get their fair share of wear.
I'm traveling in about 2 weeks so I might find a pair that I love even more there, but if I do or don't these wedges will probably make their way into my closet.
